The end of 2013 and the first few weeks of 2014 have been incredibly busy for me. With a new job, and some big changes coming up in my personal life, I’ve had very little time to blog much. But I am still around and have lots of ideas that are in the raw stages that I am working on. In the meantime, here are a few updates on what I’ve been up to and what’s coming up:
- In early January of this year, I started a petition online to collect the voices and names of people who support gender equality and are willing to challenge York University’s gender discrimination under the guise of religious accommodation. The numbers added up quickly, and so far we have almost 7,000 signatures. If you haven’t yet signed it or shared it on your Facebook/Twitter etc. please do it now.
- There was a bit of media coverage surrounding this, and I was interviewed on BBC, CBC, and the Jim Richards talk show. A few days later, I was invited to speak on CFRB NewsTalk 1010 alongside Sanam Malik and host Tarek Fatah on the issue of gender discrimination on and off university campuses (our segment starts a little after 10 minutes into the show).
- I continue to work on designing Fitnah’s publication ‘Unveiled’, edited by Maryam Namazie. I highly encourage you to check out the PDFs of all the issues on the link here.
- And now, for some exciting news! In October of this year, the international conference “Religious-Right, Secularism and Civil Rights“ is taking place in London, UK, and I have been invited to speak and participate there. There are lots of amazing friends and allies with whom I will be meeting in London while I’m there. Brilliant people, including many who are also going to be speaking at the conference, and many who will be in attendance
